I finally got around to watching Arrival this week. Before giving it a go, I stayed away from all the spoilers, only knowing about a twist. Some may not like it, but this is a movie that requires a second viewing. I love the Keyser Soze moment (the Usual Suspects) at the end. “The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist. And like that…he’s gone.” Other movies that require a second viewing? Fight Club. Memento. Inception. The Illusionst. The Prestige. Yes, magician movies need a twist.
I did end up researching the science of Quantum Entanglement. When you realize there’s so much left to learn in the universe, it’s comforting and also a little frightening.
And the movie Arrival is based on a novella titled “Story of Your Life” by Ted Chiang. I might give it a read. I understand the movie cut Jeremy Renner’s character down a bit. I also like to test the theory now and then, Is the book better than the movie? That’s almost always the case. I suppose we’ll see. Tall order with this one.
